Welcome to the institute of Automotive Lightweight Design

 The Institute of Automotive Lightweight Design focusses on the development of methods and principles for more efficient lightweight design in car body structures and chassis suspension, dealing with lighweight design aspects in the development chain from material applications to manufacturing up to design engineering. The goal is to further develop lightweight design and to offer new, affordable and feasible solutions to the industry. Hence our motto:

 „Novel methods for unique solutions“

Based on these principles, new products and applications of materials are elaborated in conjunction with innovative manufacturing techniques and development methods.

The institute is a founding member of the Automotive Center Südwestfalen (ACS). It is also a partner in the development of the body-in-white of the electric car named "StreetScooter".
